Samsung Wallet Just Got a Front-Door Key: Here’s What You Need to Know
The core idea is simple but game-changing: your smartphone can unlock your front door, not just your car. Samsung is piloting this with Digital Home Key, a new feature tucked into Samsung Wallet. It works with compatible smart locks and is powered by Aliro, a smart-home protocol designed for digital keys and built on the Matter ecosystem. Aliro 1.0 arrived on February 26, making Samsung the first to offer a digital key that aligns with this fresh standard. Apple and Google have signaled intent to support Aliro in the future.
Setup is straightforward. Choose an Aliro-enabled lock, then add the Digital Home Key to Samsung Wallet. When you approach your door, you can open it by either tapping your phone to the lock with NFC, or letting the lock detect your phone automatically via ultrawideband (which doesn’t require tapping). These options can be configured in the lock’s dedicated app.
The rollout began recently and spans well over a dozen devices, including every Galaxy S model from the Galaxy S21 onward, four A-series variants, and the Xcover 7 Pro. The current version supports NFC unlocks, while UWB support is slated to arrive in April for compatible devices.

This is how the future of access control gets built.”
