Powerball eyes a potentially historic close to 2025, with a top prize reaching the $1 billion milestone once again if Saturday’s drawing produces a winning ticket. The advertised cash value before taxes is $457.7 million, marking the second time this year the game has topped or touched the $1 billion mark.
Earlier this year, on Sept. 6, a colossal $1.787 billion prize was shared by players in Missouri and Texas, the second-largest Powerball payout on record and only surpassed by the $2.04 billion jackpot from Nov. 7, 2022.
Should a winner emerge on Saturday, the prize would rank as the seventh-largest in Powerball history and would snap a 41-day streak without a winner. That drought matches the longest no-win run, which previously ended on April 6, 2024, when an Oregon ticket claimed a $1.3 billion jackpot.
Powerball operates as a $2 game across 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and has undergone various modifications over the past two decades aimed at boosting jackpots and broadening participation.
The odds of clinching the jackpot on Saturday are 1 in 292.2 million, according to Powerball organizers at the Multi-State Lottery Association.
The drawing for Saturday is scheduled for 10:59 p.m. ET.
