Hold onto your hats, folks! Obamacare, the Affordable Care Act (ACA), is enjoying a surge in popularity, reaching an all-time high in the eyes of Americans. This news comes as Congress is locked in a battle over crucial subsidies, making the timing even more significant.
According to a recent poll conducted by Gallup and West Health, a remarkable 57% of US adults now approve of the ACA. That's a 3% jump from last year and the highest approval rating since Gallup began tracking this in 2012.
The poll, taken in November, coincided with the government shutdown, during which Democrats were keen to highlight the expiring subsidies. Interestingly, Independents are leading the charge, with a whopping 63% approval rate.
But here's where it gets interesting... Gallup also found that a significant 73% of Americans believe the government should fund hospitals to cover medical costs for uninsured individuals. However, support plummets to just 33% when it comes to covering all patients, including those residing in the country illegally.
This is a critical point. It reveals a complex interplay of compassion and concern about the scope of healthcare coverage. What do you think about this? Do you agree with the distinction made regarding healthcare for those living in the country illegally? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
