In her defense, Ms. Pyper states that she lived with Mr. Thompson as his wife for 36 years, contributing to farm tasks like lambing and stock feeding. She even claims the farm was as much hers as his. Additionally, she asserts that she funded an extension for a new kitchen, costing £77,530.
The sisters, however, argue that Ms. Pyper has no legal right to their brother's assets and that she lacks the necessary documentation to support her claim. They also allege that she waited too long to make any claim on the estate.
Victoria Heyman, the executor of her brother's estate, is leading the legal battle with the support of her sisters. Ms. Heyman, 74, is suing Ms. Pyper, seeking a declaration that she has no claim to the estate.
But here's the part most people miss... Ms. Pyper's case is not without merit. She argues that she and Mr. Thompson discussed her receiving a share of the estate, and that he promised to take care of her financially. She claims she chose not to press the issue further, trusting in his promises.
After Mr. Thompson's death in December 2022, Ms. Pyper discovered that he had not left a will, meaning under the laws of intestacy, she received nothing. The estate went entirely to his sisters.
In a twist, Ms. Pyper's solicitors wrote to Mrs. Heyman in December 2024, seeking a share of the farm. They followed up with a claim for a 35% share in March 2025, citing an alleged promise that Ms. Pyper would inherit "what she needed" and a draft unsigned will from 1989, which she says she recently discovered.
Ms. Pyper also claims financial detriment, having spent money on improvements to the farmhouse, including the new kitchen.
And this is where the story gets even more intriguing... Ms. Pyper and Mr. Thompson had tried to start a family, but this ended when she was diagnosed with breast cancer at 50. She claims Mr. Thompson assured her that her needs would be met, and she chose to trust him.
But after his death, she says she realized he had not taken any financial steps to secure her future.
Ms. Pyper will argue that Mr. Thompson's promises entitle her to enough money from the estate to buy a property that meets her needs. However, the sisters will counter that Ms. Pyper has her own financial means, including a flat in Mayfair and an investment fund worth over £1 million.
The sisters will also emphasize their brother's intelligence and capability, suggesting he had the means and opportunity to make a will if he so desired.
